HR Tips... From Management Cruel... to Management Tool
|
From Management Cruel... to Management Tool - you can make Performance Evaluations a better experience for everyone with these simple tips:
- Keep them short and to the point. 1 - 2 pagers are best for being clear about the performance that's being evaluated. Giving your people good, easy to understand feedback is the best way to impact changes and improvements. Evaluations that don't address performance that needs to be improved or areas of development fall short of the mark.
- Make the evaluation usable. After you identify the changes, improvements or development that you're looking for, give the employee ways to get there and how to measure success. A good performance review gives people a roadmap for improvement.
- Review formally, update informally. Formal reviews are typically given annually, but people actually need much more frequent feedback. Give your people informal reviews on a monthly or quarterly basis and revisit the annual review to make sure that the employee is on track.
Performance Reviews can be a powerful management tool that doesn't have to be a dreadful event. Give us a call and we can help you make the transition from Management Cruel to Management Tool.
