What Your Employees Want Most

It's a time of high anxiety for most employees. The economic crisis is taking its toll on employee morale. Here are several ways you can keep morale from slipping by helping your people get what they need.

  1. Employees want to know they'll be able to keep their jobs. While there are no guarantees for anyone today, reassure your people by staying cool, calm and collected when things get chaotic. Share your Plan B with them, so they know what's coming.

  2. Give them even more reassurance by cross-training them, giving them opportunities to sharpen their skills or learn new skills and by splitting some of their costs for training. You may feel like this is the time to cut back on training, but now is a great time to show your employees that you are willing to invest in them.

  3. If you find that you will need to do lay-offs, learn what you need to do to protect yourself and to help the employees who will be job-seeking. How you handle lay-offs speaks volumes to your values and integrity and can make a huge difference to your employees who are looking to you to help them make the transition.

  4. Call the experts. This is a tough time to go through lay-offs by yourself, developing your Plan B, strategizing for the next quarter and actually getting all of the work done. HR Resolutions can help you make this tough time a bit easier by bringing our years of experience to your situation.
